Our instructors are highly skilled and dedicated to the success of our students.

Leif was awarded his purple belt from Professor Castano from Castano BJJ out of Uvalde, TX. He has competed in multiple tournaments all over Texas and fought for Fury Fighting Championship (MMA) in Fury FC 73. He also has a law enforcement background and is a LLI (less lethal instructor).

Nick Castano has been actively involved in grappling sports such as NOGI, Wrestling, and BJJ since 2003, turning professional in MMA in 2010 with Fight 2 Win promotions and achieving a record of 1-1. He earned his Black Belt in 2022 and was titled Professor by Prof. Luiz Sergio Correa in May 2023. Over the years, Nick has successfully coached numerous MMA fighters and kids, leading them to win various World and National Championships. Having spent most of his life in Carrizo Springs and Uvalde, Nick is deeply rooted in these communities and continues to contribute to the martial arts landscape there.

Zach was introduced to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu while serving in the Army as an Infantry Mortarman from 2011-2017. During that time, he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Resolute support. While in the Army, he learned the necessity of intense and realistic training. He left the Army in 2017 and moved to the Big Bend. He has been Training BJJ with Far West Jiu Jitsu since Coach Leif opened the gym in 2023. Since then, Zach has competed multiple times at various AGF competitions and has won both gi and no-gi divisions. He assists with the kid’s and adult’s programs at FWJJ while continuing his journey as a Jiu Jitsu practitioner, training and competing often.

Beau Meche is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu blackbelt out of Rayne, Louisiana with over 30 years experience in grappling. He started with High School Wrestling in 1994 and has been an active grappler since, with tournament victories across wrestling, Judo, and BJJ, including a Louisiana State Championship with the University of Louisiana Judo Club in 2010. Coach Beau started training BJJ in 2016 and received his blackbelt from Professor Richard Mitchell of Invictus Martial Arts in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2024.
